Heretic Dirty Hinoki Clean Fragrance Review
Clean beauty has been a growing trend for years, and while the market for clean skincare and makeup has become somewhat oversaturated, there’s still a noticeable gap when it comes to high-quality clean fragrance brands with truly unique offerings.

About the Brand
Let me introduce you to my latest clean fragrance brand discovery: Heretic Parfum. Founded by perfumer Douglas Little, Heretic redefines the rules of perfumery, a philosophy reflected in its very name. ‘Heretic’ refers to someone who challenges or defies the established ideals and opinions of the masses.
Heretic blends naturally derived botanical ingredients to craft vibrant, non-gendered fragrances infused with organic, non-GMO sugarcane alcohol, so we can experience the Ayurvedic benefits of these potent plant materials. Drawing on ancient perfumery traditions and handcrafted in small batches at their Los Angeles studio, these natural fragrances are always vegan and cruelty-free. The brand is highly transparent about the ingredients in their fragrances, and you can easily find the full list for each Heretic scent.

Dirty Hinoki Plant Based Eau De Parfum
An absolutely stunning fragrance with a unique blend of high-quality plant-based ingredients, Dirty Hinoki captures the essence of a Japanese forest bath. To be honest, I have no personal experience with forest bathing, so I wasn’t sure what to expect or how accurately it would reflect that experience. However, someone I know who lives in Japan and has tried this fragrance confirmed that it’s a true representation, so I’m trusting their word on it.

Key Notes
- TOP: Lemon, Cedar, Nutmeg, Thyme, Pine
- HEART: Hinoki, Cypress
- BASE: Elemi, Wormwood, Fir Absolute, Ambrettolide, Balsam, Frankincense

Dirty Hinoki opens with a fresh burst of lemon, blended with a soft, spicy mix of thyme and nutmeg. Soon, the citrus notes soften, giving way to the rich scent of pine and cedar. At its heart, Hinoki and cypress keep the fragrance aromatic and woody, with a hint of citrus lingering throughout. The dry down becomes more balsamic, with a subtle, sweet-spicy finish.
It has a perfectly balanced unisex profile, making it suitable for wear year-round. The projection is excellent, while the longevity is moderate, lasting around 4-6 hours on my skin. However, it’s important to note that these fragrances are crafted with natural, plant-based ingredients and free from chemical additives designed to extend wear time. As such, the brand recommends reapplying as needed throughout the day.

Dirty Hinoki along with some other Heretic fragrances is now available at The Detox Market and The Detox Market Canada
