Maison Margiela Afternoon Delight has a simple, straightforward profile and sometimes that’s exactly what you need to create a memorable experience. I’d describe it as a minimalist vanilla fragrance, grounded by soft sandalwood and musk in the base. To my nose, it leans more toward creamy vanilla custard than Madeleines, making it a laconic gourmand rather than something that smells like baked goods.
The color of the perfume itself is quite interesting. Because of the natural qualities of vanilla, the liquid inside the bottle can appear either light yellow or light purple. Some reviewers mentioned that theirs started out yellow and gradually turned purple over time. The brand does note in the fragrance details that this color change happens due to vanilla’s interaction with other ingredients and doesn’t affect the scent. Mine arrived in light purple shade, and since I haven’t tried the yellow version, I’ll take the brand at its word and assume they smell the same.
