Brown Girl Jane Fragrance : CARNIVALE & CAROUSEL
Weather is still playing peek-a-boo between spring and summer but that doesn’t mean we can’t start exploring warm weather fragrances. Recently I came across a (new to me) fragrance brand Brown Girl Jane. There perfumes sound very intriguing. With simple aesthetic and beautiful curated selection, some of the fragrances caught my attention but I couldn’t get them in Canada so I had to make do with sourcing two of them through Sephora USA.

Being head over heal in love with last years carnival themes discovery of Cirque du Soleil Lโeau de Parfum , I decided to pick two fragrances that hint towards the similar theme “Carnival” and “Carousel” though in all honesty I didn’t compare the notes because I wasn’t looking for a replica but something more along the lines of similar feel in different scents. Well these fragrances did not disappoint .

Brown Girl Jane Carnivale
Carnivale is a fruity floral gourmand fragrance with a juicy mango opening that feels bright, playful, and addictive from the very first spray. Thereโs a touch of sweet vanilla and nectar in the mix, but the mango is definitely the star of the show. Itโs an absolutely delicious opening and stays with me for about 1โ2 hours before the floral notes slowly start to take over. The scent remains beautiful, fresh, and uplifting, though I do wish that mouthwatering mango opening lasted just a little bit longer.

Middle: Amber, Musk, Ginger
Base: Vanilla, Sandalwood, Pimento
Brown Girl Jane Carousel
Carousel is another fruity floral fragrance with a bright candy apple opening that feels happy, cheerful, and sugary. As fun as the candy apple opening is, it doesnโt stick around for very long and fades faster than Carnivaleโs juicy opening. On my skin, it transforms into a soft sweet floral within about half an hour. The cherry and leather in the base are easy to notice, but they never take over the fragrance. Instead, they stay quietly in the background, adding depth and warmth behind the scenes.

Top: Spun Sugar, Apple, Black Currant
Middle: Orange Blossom, Lily of the Valley, Coral Rose
Base: Cherry, Leather, Musk, Sandalwood

Gabriela Chelariu is the nose behind both of these fragrances, and you can definitely sense a similar softness in the way they develop on the skin. Both have moderate projection with a strong initial burst that fades fairly quickly before settling into soft skin scents for around 5โ6 hours. They feel intimate, airy, and easy to wear.
If I had to make one recommendation, it would be to find a way for the opening notes to last a little longer. Both fragrances have such beautiful openings that it almost feels like a disservice for them to fade away so quickly.

Brown Girl Jane fragrances are available at Sephora but only on the US side , if it changes in the future and they become available on Canadian site , I’ll update here.
